about

My name is Mariana Hilgert.

In my work I serve curiosity. This is for me a precious learning and creative state to be in. Beyond the wrong and the right, curiosity allows to keep my interest for people, for the world and my surroundings alive.

My main working tool is movement.

I have over 20+ years of experience with dance,  my first movement language. As a 12 y.o. kid, I fell in love with hip hop dance back in Brazil, where I come from. Since then, I have been exposed to various dance styles, travelling through contemporary dance practice, western African dance and Brazilian rhythms, to name a few. In 2017 my interest turned to the holistic movement practice approach of Joseph Bartz, with whom I study and work to this day. The combination of a very specific and very generalist practices are the base of my pedagogical work.

I dearly enjoy working with other people. Teaching, coaching, giving workshops, spending time with students is a gift for me, either in a group or in 1:1 sessions.

My interest for movement informs my life, my decisions, my possibilities and ressources. It supports my desire of living a life of purpose and responsibility. It also enables me to explore other topics, such as communication, awareness, language, writing and the menstrual cycle.

My qualifications include:

  • B..A. in Journalism (Bachelor of Arts, UFSC, Florianópolis, Brazil)
  • M.A. in Translation Studies (University of Heidelberg, Germany)
  • Ph.D. in Translation Studies/ Dance Studies (UFSC, Brazil/ FU, Berlin, Germany)
  • Certifications in Pedagogical Training by mehr als lernen e.V. and Movement Instructor by Joseph Bartz.

Nowadays my main professional focus are on my dance coaching and as a coach at Joseph Bartz. I teach regular dance and movement classes, online and in Berlin. You can check my offers here.

As a dancer, as a trainer, as a researcher, as a translator, as an aunt, I am deeply moved by people, by nature, by taking responsibility and being kind. I like the depth, the sustainability of things, the metaphors of life.
