You will enjoy the classes if...
You are curious about dance/movement as a space for being present with yourself, for exploration, creativity, and joy.
You move/ dance regularly, but your practice ofen feels repetitive, rigid, or creatively stuck.
You long to feel less rigid and more connected to your body by exploring sensation, imagination, and play.
You want to expand your dance/movement practice by discovering new ways to move in space, but also to relate, and take up space in yourself and with the world.
How you move in and with space can say a lot about how you feel inside yourself.
How you move in and with space can say a lot about how you feel inside yourself.
If you feel rigid in movement, over time these patterns can settle into the body like a second skin, so transparent that you stop noticing you are wearing them.
When movement becomes tight, we can drift away from sensation: from the pulse, texture, and intelligence of the body - from what I call our sensational body. And when we feel rigid inside, the world around us can begin to tighten up too.
But the body is not fixed. It is creative, just like the environment around us.
Open the Body is an invitiation to meet our bodies in relationship to space in a playful and creative way.
Across three sessions, we will explore dance and creative movement practices to open our awareness for the space inside, in between, and around us, awakening awareness of our three-dimensional body and our relationship with inner world, imagination, objects, others, and surroundings.
Together, we will learn ways to expand softness, deepen presence, and discover how a feeling of space can open creative possibilities for inhabiting ourselves and the world.
Meet Mariana
Mariana Hilgert is a Brazilian, Berlin-based movement and dance teacher and founder of The Creative Body, an online space dedicated to cultivating creativity through movement.
With a Ph.D. research on movement and language, over 20 years of experience across dance styles and years of collaboration with movement teachers across Europe, her work bridges diverse practices into a structured, playful and accessible approach.
Through The Creative Body, Mariana helps adults turn their desire to move into a creative practice they actually can sustain through different life phases.
Mariana creates non-judgmental spaces where people refine perception, develop embodied intelligence, and (re)connect with an expressive and confident way of moving their unique creative bodies.
What students say
Mariana is a fun and gifted teacher whose enthusiasm matches her deep expertise! You’ll want to keep coming back to her material, and her infectious energy, many times over!
- Helena
I enjoy Mariana's session and take insights out of every class. They have a varying and a good mixture of intensities!
- Kathrin
Marianas teaching style is warm and attentive. She makes every effort to get to know her students. Even through the zoom screen I felt that connection to her.
- Jenna
What I enjoy about The Creative Body: the consistency, weekly meetings, the material, the playfulness, the writing exercises, the excitement before the class or relief (in the body and in the mind) right after the class.
- Célia
Mariana's ideas help create dances even if it feels like no dance is possible.
- Anna
I found a lot of joy in moving together with Mariana. Her passion for movement and dance is infectious. I don't consider myself a dancer. But with those sessions I learned more and more that dance is for everyone and can even be found in the subtleties.
- Gisela
Mariana's morning sessions are a gem you should not be gatekeeping but telling everyone around you about. I especially appreciate three aspects of her training method: precision, gentleness, playfulness. Her movement sessions do miracles for my (mental) health.
